Kia ora Koutou Ngā matua, ngā whaea me ngā tamariki hou, Nau mai haere mai ki Te Kura o Papatewhai (Ashbrook School).
What do they learn? Our school has a lot to offer our students ranging from the school curriculum: Reading, Writing, Maths, Spelling, Social Science, Technology to PE, Sports, EOTC (Life Skills), Performing Arts (Kapahaka/School Productions), Te Reo Maori (Tikanga, Whakawhanaungatanga).
Our school is greatly known for its participation in a lot of interschool tournaments in the district (Soccer, Touch, Ripper, Ki-o-rahi, Rugby, Netball, Cross country, Athletics, Swimming etc). Every year the Year 7/8 students go to the annual Aims Tournament in Tauranga, competing in (Netball, Indoor Bowls, Table Tennis, basketball). The tournament is held in Tauranga every year; it has gone international (as far as Australia and the Pacific Islands).
Kapahaka – Delamere Cup – Kapahaka is a very strong part of our curriculum students learn about local history and portray this through waiata and haka.
Every year our school has a theme our themes are Te Ngahere (The Bush), Te Moana (The Sea), Ngutuawa (Estuary) Kopungawha me nga Awa (Rivers & Lakes). The theme lasts the whole year for example this year our theme is Te Moana (The sea) so we build a lot of our planning around this theme.
What is the goal of each year? Our main goal for the year (every year) are our student’s achievements and their learning. As a school we are obligated to assisting our students by nurturing their prior knowledge and enhancing it with our teachings. Having the child’s previous data helps the teacher plan to the students learning abilities.
What kind of person would you like your students to become when they graduate from our school? When our students leave our kura we hope that they leave with a lot of skills in their kete and most importantly they leave with a lot of self-confidence and pride in themselves. We hope that they take what they have learnt from our teachings and enhance it with a lot more teachings from Secondary and University.
