The purpose for Study Centre is to help any students in the Year 4-8 area who need help with their homework or we offer them a computer program called ‘Studyladder’. Students are signed into Studyladder (a reading, mathematics, general knowledge site). Each child has their own username and password and is assigned different activities to do (Most students get their own file aimed at their academic level). Studyladder helps each student to extend his or her knowledge and understanding of reading, mathematics and writing.
Study centre is run after school for two days a week (Tuesday/Thursday).
Whaea Michelle and Whaea Sharleen are there to help each students to gain a better understanding of the reading, mathematic and writing processes. Through the Studyladder site, students gain points from each activity they do and at the end of the term, the child with the most points wins a prize.
We also now have the students work on their ‘Mathletics’ so that they have a mixture of things to do. For the last 15 minutes of the day the students go out for a game, it is here we bring in the exercise side of our program. We believe Study Centre re-enforces each students learning ability, many students bring what they have learnt in their classrooms to Study Centre and there are times they take what they have learnt in Study Centre back to the classroom.
